A man who urinated onto cars parked at Mill Street Garda Station was fined €300 at Galway District Court this week.
Grzegorz Kosiba was also fined a further €500 and disqualified for four years after he was found in an intoxicated state and sitting in a car before refusing to give a breath sample.
The 24-year-old Polish national with an address at 10 Sli Geal, Ballymoneen, Knocknacarra, pleaded guilty to being intoxicated in a public place and with threatening and abusive behaviour at Mill Street on July 15, 2007, and to refusing to give a breath sample on February 8, 2009.
The court heard that on July 15, 2007, at 1.30am at Mill Street the defendant was observed standing outside the Garda Station. He was drunk and “urinating into the station onto the cars”. On February 9 at 12.05am the defendant was found sitting in his car and was arrested on suspicion for drink driving but he refused to give a sample of his breath.
Defence solicitor Olivia Traynor told the court that her client apologised for his behaviour and had no recollection of it. She stressed that Kosiba had “no issue with the gardai”. Regarding the incident on February 9, she said that Kosiba had been in the car with two others but was not driving. The court then heard that the defendant has no previous convictions.
