Disappointment in All-Ireland club finals

It was a dose of double disappointment in Croke Park on Sunday for Eyrecourt and Killimor in the All-Ireland intermediate and senior finals.

In the intermediate final Cahir (Tipperary ) had too much firepower for the Eyrecourt ladies and won by 0-14 to 1-2.

Unfortunately the senior final ended in disappointment too, with Milford (Cork ) defeating Killimor by eight points, 2-8 to 1-3.

Killimor will rue a number of missed chances in the first half some from scrabble frees, while captain Ann-Marie Starr was adjudged to have over carried by the referee just before ramming the sliotar to the net on 40 minutes.

Had that score stood, the margin would have been one, having been six at half time, but instead Milford went up the other end of the field and goaled to leave them in a strong position to close out the game.

That they did when the youngest player on the field, 16-year-old Laura Stack, pounced for a second goal to leave the result beyond doubt.

Killimor battled hard, but will have no complaints as they did not produce the performance required to topple the Munster champions, and left themselves a mountain to climb in the second period.

Killimor: H Campbell, S Brien, K Brien, S Fahy, A Brehony, AM Hayes, M Callagy, E Haverty, A Starr (cpt ), D Starr, M Conroy, S Brehony, C Conroy (1-2, 0-1f ), B Hanney, S Keane (0-1 ). Subs: H Quinn for S Brehony (ht ), E Porter for Haverty (57 ), S O’Hara for A Brehony (60+1 )
