TOBIAS WOLFF, the American writer best known for his 1989 memoir This Boy's Life, will take part in the 2016 Cúirt International Festival of Literature, which will be launched in The House Hotel on Tuesday March 8 at 6pm.
Wolff, who has also written novels, including The Barracks Thief (1984 ) is also the recipient of the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction, while last year he received a National Medal of the Arts from US President Barak Obama. He will take part in a public interview and read from his work at Cúirt, which runs from April 17 to 24.
The theme for Cúirt 2016 is ‘memory’ and will include the commemoration of the 1916 Rising, with a special focus on women’s involvement in the 1916 Rising, and the status of women in Ireland, 100 years on. Among the writers taking part are American Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky, and award winning Irish novelists Kevin Barry and Jennifer Johnston. There will also be theatre, screenings, and the Cúirt Labs youth programme, and a creative writing workshop programme. Cúirt will also host an artist in residence programme, with a visual artist, a storyteller, and a musician in residence for the duration of the festival.
This years' festival, which runs for eight days, will be launched by Galway 2020 programme manager Marilyn Gaughan. All are welcome.
