PRESTON REED, "widely thought of as the world’s most gifted guitarist,” according to Total Guitar, and described by the Manchester Evening News as “a major musical talent”, is coming back to Galway.
The American born guitarist, whose extraordinary and unorthodox techniques of over the neck fretting, and percussive use of the guitar, not to mention his ability to seemingly be able to do several things on the instrument at once, has rightfully earned him high critical acclaim. It has also influenced such guitarists as Andy McKee and Jon Gomm.
Reed's music mixes elements of blues, country, rock, folk, funk, and World, to create rhythmic, propulsive blasts of acoustic guitar, which never lose sight of the importance of melody, as displayed on such albums as Ladies Night, Handwritten Notes, and Metal. The London Evening Standard said he was "in a class of his own”, while Billboard declared his music a "heart stopping tour de force”.
Preston Reed plays the Róisín Dubh this Sunday at 8pm. Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG Zhivago, Shop Street, and The Róisín Dubh. See also www.prestonreed.com
