Two die in Aughrim horror road crash

A sightseeing trip ended in tragedy for a group of Polish nationals when two men were killed in a crash close to Aughrim on Monday evening.

Pawel Pietraszczyk (32 ), and Marek Forys (19 ), both of Bachelors Walk, Ashbourne, Co Meath, died when the car they were travelling in was involved in a collision with a bus on the N6 at 7pm on Monday. One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, while the other was brought by ambulance to Portiuncula Hospital where he died shortly after midnight.

It is understood the two men were travelling in the front of the car when the accident occurred. Three women, who were in the back seat of the car, were treated for injuries in Portiuncula Hospital after the crash. Neither the driver nor any of the passengers travelling on the bus was injured in the collision.

Garda forensic collision investigators examined the vehicles and the scene of the collision on Tuesday morning, and gardaí have appealed to witnesses to contact Ballinasloe Garda Station at (090 ) 9642123.
