THE KINGS Of The Kilburn Highroad, Jimmy Murphy's funny, yet deeply poignant study of the Irish emigrant experience in Britain, starring Phelim Drew, and directed by Padraic McIntyre, is coming to Galway.
In the mid-1970s a group of young men leave the West of Ireland, taking the boat from Dublin Bay to England in the hope of making their fortunes and returning home. Twenty-five years later only one, Jackie Flavin, returns, but does so in a coffin. On the day of the funeral, the winners and losers of the group meet to drink to Jackie’s memory and in the process examine their lives and lost dreams.
Livin Dred Theatre Co will stage the play in the Town Hall Theatre on Friday March 4 and Saturday 5 at 8pm. The cast is Phelim Drew (Jap ) who has appeared in My Left Foot, The Commitments, Into The West, Ripper Street, and Val Falvey TD; Malcolm Adams (Git ) has directed and appeared in numerous plays in Ireland and Britain, and twice been nominated in The Irish Times Theatre Awards. He also appeared in I Shot Andy Warhol, alongside David Bowie.
Seamus O’Rourke (Maurteen ) is a writer, director, and actor. His plays include Ride On, The Trappe Family, The Halfway House Hotel, and For Club and County. He also directed plays for his own company, Big Guerilla Productions. Arthur Riordan (Shay ) is a founder member of Rough Magic and has appeared in many of its productions. Charlie Bonner (Joe ) has appeared in numerous plays in Ireland and Britain and on TV3's Red Rock.
