Ireland’s largest home-grown fast-food chain, Supermac’s, will add to its growing empire tomorrow when the Galway Plaza opens for business on the M6.
The motorway services station, which is located at Junction 16 Kiltullagh, will provide a stop-over for motorists travelling from Dublin, and incorporates a Texaco fuel station and a Spar shop. There is also a vast array of food offerings including a fresh gourmet style deli, alongside Supermac’s, Papa John’s Pizza, SuperSubs, and Bewley’s Coffee.
The plaza will incorporate a visitor information area, providing knowledge on the history and culture of east Galway for visitors. It is hoped this initiative will encourage tourists to explore the area and contribute to businesses and the economy of east Galway.
The new development has created 85 jobs and owners Pat and Una McDonagh are understandably proud to be creating employment in their local area. Mr McDonagh says he is thrilled with how the plaza has turned out. “We had excellent local construction workers and suppliers helping to get the development prepared for business and now, as the doors are about to open, we have a dedicated team in place ready to greet and look after each customer as they arrive. As members of the Kiltullagh community we are delighted to provide jobs in the area as well as essential services for motorists who travel along the M6.”
Mr McDonagh believes the on-site visitor information area will contribute significantly to the locality. “The area is rich in culture and steeped in history which deserves to be highlighted. History, culture, sport and visitor attractions of east Galway have dedicated individual sections located throughout the plaza and we are proud of the quality of content which has been made available for tourists. Local businesses will be invited to advertise and promote their products and services in the plaza. The development will ensure that Kiltullagh will become a landmark like Moneygall on the Irish motorway network.”
The local businessman certainly can never be accused of resting on his laurels. Along with more than 100 Supermac’s restaurants, the Papa John’s Pizza and SuperSubs brand, an expanding hotel portfolio, and the Claddagh Irish pub chain in the US, Mr McDonagh confirmed there are plans for further expansion. He will open an additional six Supermac’s restaurants this year, and construct a further two motorway service station developments over the next two years. Along with the M6 venture, Pat and Una McDonagh own The Barack Obama Plaza, which opened on the M7 Motorway, the Tipperary Town Plaza, and the Mallow N20 Plaza on the Cork - Limerick road.
