Moycullen head to Dublin in confident form

SSE Airtricity Moycullen will hit the road for the next two weeks in the countdown to the season's end in Basketball Ireland's premier league competition.

First up is a fixture with DCU Saints, and Moycullen will be confident heading to Dublin that they can grab a fifth league victory before another trek north to face Belfast Star.

Coach Nollaig Cunningham will hope their recent form continues, having posted back-to-back home wins when they overcame UL Eagles by 72-52 in the Kingfisher gym on Saturday.

Moycullen dominated their Munster opposition on both ends of the floor, in what was undoubtedly one of their most impressive wins this season.

The sides looked evenly matched early in the first period. Moycullen received scoring contributions from multiple players, with James Loughnane, Raheem Lemons and Paul Freeman on target for their squad. UL Eagles were able to keep a narrow lead behind the three-point shooting of Eoin Quigley and American Staats Battle. As the quarter progressed, Moycullen began to look the more comfortable side, and they had further scoring success through Joseph Tummon and Dylan Cunningham, but Eagles held on to a two-point lead.

Galway took control in the second quarter with Kyle and Dylan Cunningham picking up a pair of scores early in the quarter, while Freeman and Lemons helped Moycullen to a 10-point lead. Consecutive fouls allowed UL Eagles to cut the Moycullen lead back to six points by the end of the second quarter before Moycullenproduced their best in the third quarter.

The Eagles had no answer to an on-fire home side. Raheem Lemons continued his good scoring form, and Moycullen began to cause Eagles all manner of problems on the defensive end. More scores from Joseph Tummon and Sean Candon kept Moycullen ahead by 15 points.

Moycullen’s lead never really looked in jeopardy in the fourth, coasting to a comfortable win by the final whistle.

SSE Airtricity Moycullen: Raheem Lemons 19, Paul Freeman 12, Dylan Cunningham 13, James Loughnane 13, Kyle Cunningham 6, Sean Candon 3, Joseph Tummon 4, Paul O’ Brien 2, Gerald Lyons.
