1,498 .ie domains were registered in Galway in 2015, the highest in Connacht according to the latest .ie Domain Profile Report, published by the IE Domain Registry (IEDR ), the company responsible for the management and administration of Ireland’s official internet address .ie.
The figure is a six per cent increase on 2014 and brings the total number of domains in Galway to 8,388 at the end of 2015.
Overall .ie domain registrations in Connacht in 2015 numbered 2,915, a 13 per cent increase on the previous year.
A total of 35,225 .ie domains—almost 100 a day—were registered in 2015, an increase of 13 per cent on 2014. Nearly 50 per cent of all .ie domains were registered by private companies and 25 per cent by sole traders.
David Curtin, Chief Executive of IEDR, said: “The increase in registrations in Galway, in line with the overall nationwide increase, indicates wider trends, including a continued economic recovery and confident adoption of digital media by Irish businesses.
“Still, plenty remains to be done, especially in rural areas. Access to broadband and enterprise programmes is limited in many places; Government and industry must continue to work together to promote website ownership and e-commerce.”
