More than €3 million to be invested in Tuam nursing home

An investment of €3.3 million is to be made in Áras Mhuire Community Nursing Unit in Tuam over the next five years. The money will go towards replacing facilities and providing nursing home beds that comply to HIQA standards by 2021.

Áras Mhuire is one of 33 facilities around the country that will be replaced, while a further 57 existing facilities will be refurbished or extended. The investment is made up of €148 million in the current HSE capital plan and a further €237 million from the Capital Investment Plan. Ten facilities worth €150 million are also being funded by public private partnerships.

The news has been welcomed by Fine Gael Galway East TD Paul Connaughton. “The majority of residents in nursing homes in county Galway receive an excellent quality of care,” he said, “but some of the facilities are not up to date. This funding ensures the best facilities are available for residents and their families in the future.”
