Choirfactor, the hugely popular choral fundraising initiative returns to the Radisson Blu Hotel, Galway on Saturday March 12 2016.
Choirs from Galway based companies and organisations will battle it out in front of a live audience and adjudicators to win the Choirfactor Trophy and raise funds for the SCCUL Sanctuary.
Organisations participating this year include Aerogen, Avaya and Notorious, a community choir from Oranmore and Clarenbridge. Also taking part in this year’s competition is newcomer Coole Voices, based in Gort, Co. Galway.
New for 2016 is a separate competition for newly established choirs who are less than 12 months in existence. Organisers are encouraging community groups and businesses to avail of this opportunity to establish a choral group for the competition and experience the fun and team work of choral singing.
Trisha Murphy, SCCUL Sanctuary Retreat Manager, is delighted with the response from Galway companies to the choral fundraiser and welcomes new choirs Moycullen EnChants, Testostertones and Galway Sings Project to the competition.
Choirs entering the main Choirfactor competition will each perform three pieces at the concert and the choirs in the new choir category are required to perform two pieces. The judging panel for the competition will be chaired by Dr Brendan O’Connor, Director of award winning Galway chamber choir, Cois Cladaigh.
Back by popular demand to perform the interval act is last year’s winner the Medtronic Chorale under the direction of Ronan de Burca. The Galway Parkinsons choir who delighted audiences last year will return as for a special cameo performance. Audiences are guaranteed an enjoyable evening filled with popular choral favourites.
The event is organised by SCCUL Enterprises who hope that the event will be as successful as the last three Choirfactors in raising much needed funds for the development of SCCUL Sanctuary in Clarinbridge, Co. Galway.
Speaking this week, Michael Smyth, General Manager SCCUL Enterprises said,
“SCCUL Enterprises are developing the SCCUL Sanctuary as a retreat and healing centre for community groups and members of the public in need of healing. We are currently refurbishing a bungalow in the grounds of Kilcornan, Clarenbridge to provide a purpose built healing centre. Funds raised from this concert will enable a wide variety of groups to benefit from healing therapies and wellbeing workshops in The SCCUL Sanctuary such as family carers, the elderly, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s sufferers, people living with cancer, people coping with depression and those bereaved by suicide.”
