New ICT apprenticeship arrives in Galway

Are you interested in a career as a software developer? The FIT ICT Associate Professional (ICTAP ) is a new dual-education apprenticeship-style pathway to a career in the technology sector. This ‘learn and earn’ model combines college-based learning with on-the-job training allowing jobseekers to develop in-demand technology skills and gain access to employment in the IT sector.

FIT (FastTrack to IT ) is an industry-led initiative which works in collaboration with national education and training agencies to develop and promote technology-based programmes and career development opportunities for jobseekers. The FIT ICT Skills Audit 2014 identified 7,000 current vacancies at entry level in the technology sector in Ireland, and the ICTAP has been developed to grow a talent pipeline of skilled employees to fill these positions.

The ICTAP is delivered over two years and leads to a Level 6 ICT Professional Development Award. The first six months are college-based at a training centre in Galway and, during this time, candidates develop their technical expertise and employment skills. The remaining 18 months are a combination of college-based learning and workplace training where candidates can apply their learning to live projects within their sponsoring company. Sponsoring companies in Galway include IBM, SAP, Cisco, and Oracle.

FIT is now recruiting for apprenticeship positions available in Galway in February. Applications are invited from anyone with a Leaving Certificate who has an active interest and aptitude for software development. For further information or to apply online, visit www.fit.ie

There will be an information session on Thursday January 28 at 10am in the GRETB Training Centre, Mervue, Galway. All are welcome to attend.
