Galway handballer Martin Mulkerrins made it through to the semi-finals of this year's Gaffney Memorial title.
The Galwayman was hotly tipped to advance to the final after a hugely entertaining 21-20, 21-19 quarter-final win over the USA No 1 Sean Lenning.
However he faced Westmeath's Robbie McCarthy, the current All Ireland senior champion, and in a exhibition of attacking serve-and-kill game, McCarthy just came out the right side of victory 21-19, 21-14.
McCarthy went to to win this seventh annual handball tournament held in Ballaghadereen, overcoming defending champion Cork’s Killian Carroll in a tiebreak by 11-4.
