MUSICAL MAYHEM, the Galway based gig series night will celebrate six years on the go with a major showcase in Monroe’s on Friday February 5 at 9pm, featuring The Clandestinos, This Side Up, Cula Bula, and the Gabriel G Band.
The night opens with energetic reggae, ska, and Latin music seven-piece, The Clandestinos. The group formed in 2014 in Galway, inspired by Jamaican roots reggae, British ska, punk, Manu Chao, and the Buena Vista Social Club. The Gabriel G Band is a traditional style super group, who recently played to 26,000 people in Ortiguera Festival in Spain. Gabriel moved to Ireland in the early noughties where he became one of the founding members of Alale, who recorded the albums Wo Japen (2006 ) and Breakfast in Mayo (2012 ).
Galway based trad/rock group Cula Bula also bring their high energy to the evening. The band are Bisckits Musicman (guitar, whistles, vocals ), Alan McPhaidín (mandolin, banjo, vocals ), Ricky Brown (guitar, keys ), Luke Longarms (bass, bass ukulele ), and Tadhg Kelly (percussion ). Also performing are Sligo hip hop trio This Side Up. They are currently promoting their debut release '3075'.
Past performers at Musical Mayhem include Grammy winner Valerie June and NPR's top five greatest American songwriter David Dondero. Tickets are €10/8. See www.monroes.ie
