THIRTEEN MAY be unlucky for some, but not for the Over The Edge Open Readings which marks its 13th year in existence this month with readings by Stephen De Burca, Nuala Keher, and Vona Groarke.
The reading takes place in the Galway City Library on Thursday January 21 at 6.30pm. Manchester based Vona Groarke is the author of the poetry collecitons Shale (1994 ), Other People’s Houses (1999 ), Flight (2002 ), Juniper Street (2006 ), Spindrift (2009 ), and X (2014 ). She has won the Hennessy Award, the Brendan Behan Memorial Prize, the Michael Hartnett Award, Strokestown International Poetry Award, and the Stand Magazine Poetry Prize.
Galwegian Nuala Keher has been a key member of SIPTU and spent a year in South Sudan with the Ministry for Education. She co-authored Your Rights at Work (1998 ) with Eddie Higgins. She has been published in Ireland’s Own. Another Galwegian, Stephen De Burca, who will also read, was highly commended in the Over The Edge New Writer of the Year competition 2015.
There will also be the launch of issue six of the Skylight 47 poetry publication. There will be an open-mic after the featured readers. Those wishing to take part should be at the library by 6.20pm at the latest, and give their names to Kevin Higgins. The MC will be Susan Millar DuMars.
