3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of Music

ConTempo Quartet to host concerts in Galway City Museum

CLASSICAL, CONTEMPORARY, and Irish trad will be heard in the Galway City Museum when the great ConTempo quartet and guests, play a new series of concerts there entitled 3 Saturdays: 3 Kinds of Music.

The opening concert in the mini-series takes place this Saturday, with classical harpist Clare McCague, who will perform Britten's Suite for Harp, op 83 and Charles Oberthur's 'Meditation'; and concertina player, composer, producer, educator, and ethnomusicologist, Jack Talty from Clare [see this week's Proust Questionnaire], who will play trad.

The second event on February 13 features award-winning trumpeter Paul Kiernan and fiddler Danny Diamond, whose sound mixes Irish, Nordic, and American folk music. The final concert on March 12 features the O’Donnell Percussion Quartet from the Royal Irish Academy of Music, and singer, composer, and fiddler Saileog Ní Cheannabháin.

At each show ConTempo Quartet will perform some of their favourite works in the museum’s foyer. At this Saurday's show they will play Stravinsky's Three Pieces for String Quartet and Concertino.

The concerts run from 11am to 1pm and are family-friendly events. Admission is free.
