Galway Hospice has this week paid tribute to a Gort man whose mountain treks around the region have raised thousands of euro for their fundraising efforts.
The Hospice expressed its appreciation to Michael Uniacke who raised €3,206.40 for Galway Hospice through his participation in the 2015 Croagh Patrick Climb. Michael has been taking part in the Croagh Patrick Climb since 2013 and to date, he has raised a total of €6,253.60 for Galway Hospice. Michael visited the Hospice last week where he was thanked for his efforts.
Michael brought the spirit of south Galway with him on the day of the climb and was supported by the people of Ballyturn, Peterswell, Kilchreest, Gort and surrounding areas in his fundraising efforts.
Last year, Michael joined an estimated 800 other climbers in the climb, which raised a fantastic total of €46,000 for Galway Hospice.
100 per cent of the proceeds raised will go towards the comprehensive range of specialist Palliative Care services provided by Galway Hospice, as well as towards the six in-patient room expansion that is currently underway. The cost of this expansion is being funded entirely from voluntary contributions.
