The Annual Civic Carol Service in St Nicholas’ is on Sunday December 20 at 4.00pm. This is a traditional service of nine lessons. The service will be attended by the Mayor and city councillors as well as Bishop Martin Drennan and representatives of all the main churches in the city. Go along and join in celebrating the Nativity in prayers, readings and carols.
The choirs taking part are all members of the Schola Cantorum and are under the direction of Choirmaster Mark Duley – the Parish Choir, the choristers, and the Choral Scholars from NUIG. Also providing music will be members of the Galway Brass Ensemble.
Carols Round the Christmas Tree takes place at 4pm on Christmas Eve. This is a very informal and enjoyable service, especially for families. Due to the huge popularity of this service, space is limited so please come early — the doors open at 3.15pm and have to be closed when capacity has been reached.
Everyone is welcome to come along and take part in these ecumenical services: there will be a collection at both services for local and third world charities.
The first Eucharist of Christmas will take place at 9pm on Christmas Eve: and on Christmas Day there will be a Parish Eucharist at 11am and again all are welcome.
