Cnoc Suain cultural retreat, which is located near An Spidéal in Connemara, has been shortlisted for a prestigious world award in Cultural Heritage. The World Responsible Tourism Award (WRTA ) is presented to a ‘tourism attraction or experience that is designed to protect and promote the heritage of a community.’ Cnoc Suain founders and owners Dearbhaill Standún and Charlie Troy, offer cultural day experiences, events, and residential programmes for organised groups.
This is not the first time that the Galway business has been recognised this year. In March, Cnoc Suain won the Gold Award for Cultural Heritage at the inaugural Irish Responsible Tourism Awards in Dublin – having been shortlisted with Brú na Boinne (UNESCO site of Newgrange and Knowth ), Co Meath, and Mizen Head Centre, Co. Cork. The Irish awards were supported by Fáilte Ireland, the national tourism authority.
Cnoc Suain now has an opportunity to add a third world award to its growing list of national and international awards, having previously won a ‘Global Vision Award’ from Travel and Leisure magazine and a ‘World Ethical Travel Award’ from The Guardian.
The finals of the WRTAwards take place at the World Tourism Market (WTM ) in London in November. The World Travel Market is the leading global event for the travel industry.
