Galway's Didier Boiuc took silver in his weight division at the World Kettlebell Championships held for the first time in Ireland.
Boiuc was one of several athletes from Galway Kettlebell Club to compete for Ireland at the championships which attracted 550 athletes from 35 countries. Ireland are now ranked fourth in the world after the championships - a big jump from ninth in 2014.

Lifting 16kg in Snatch discipline were Sarah Smith (130 reps, fourth in category 68kg division ), Michelle Sweeney (55 reps ); Roisin Ridge (93 reps, fourth ), and lifting in Long Cycle 24kg discpline Steve Killeen (55 reps fourth ) and Didier Bouic, silver medal (75 reps ).
"The standard at the competition was very high," said Smith. "All my athletes lifted very well under considerable pressure, and I am thrilled Didier Boiuc took silver in his weight division. It's a great boost for the Galway Kettlebell Club."
