Lunchtime concerts to start December

DECEMBER WILL be ushered in to the sound of classical music, with two lunchtime concerts taking place in NUI Galway's Aula Maxima, early next week.

The Galway Music Residency Apprentice Ensembles’ Recitals take place in NUI Galway's Aula Maxima, on Wednesday December 2 and Thursday 3, from 1pm to 2pm, featuring musicians who have been mentored by the ConTempo Quartet.

On Wednesday 2, the OAK duo of Orlaith McHugh (violin ) and Katie Neville (guitar ) perform Paganini’s Sonata Concertata for Violin and Guitar in A major, Op 61; and Cork-based composer Maria Minguella’s Buon Viaggio. Also on the bill are Hilda O’Mahony (violin ) and Varazdat Khachatryan (piano ), performing works by Brahms and Frederick May.

Thursday 3 sees Katie Hyland (flute ) and Fiona Gryson (harp ) perform works by Jacques Ibert and Hamilton Harty. They will also be joined by ConTempo's Andreea Banciu for a movement from Claude Debussy’s Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp. Also performing are Aisling McCarthy (violin ) and Anne Ralph (piano ) to play works by Bach and Philip Martin
