Shortlist for Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh to be announced

Mayor of Galway Pádraig Conneely will announce the shortlist for Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh on Monday.

The annual Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh has attracted a wide range of businesses and organisations from different sectors of life in Galway city this year.

Caitlín Nic an Ultaigh, cathaoirleach of Gaillimh le Gaeilge, said the group was delighted with this year’s response to the award.

“It’s promising to see such diversity in nominees and in these difficult economic times it truly demonstrates the value and relevance of the Irish language to businesses in Galway city in that so many of them are using the language in the day to day running of their business,” she added. “Táimid fíorbhuíoch de na hurraí go léir a thugann tacaíocht do Ghaillimh le Gaeilge agus fáiltíonn muid roimh ár nurraí nua, Aerfort na Gaillimhe.”

The judging panel for this year’s award consists of Majella Lavelle of the Galway Advertiser, Pádraic Ó Raighne, marketing executive, TG4, and Paul Gill, chairperson of the Galway Branch of the Irish Hotels Federation.

“The level of competition was high this year and the standard of the presentations from the nominees was very impressive and varied,” Paul Gill said. “We are looking forward to visiting the premises of the finalists in the next few weeks and I believe that it won’t be an easy task for us this year to select the winner of Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh.”
