Pat Lam one of the speakers at Positive Mindset and Motivation talk

Connacht Rugby head coach, Pat Lam, is the special guest at a discussion evening in Oranmore which will explore ways in which positive mindset and motivation can be fostered. Lam’s vast experience of motivating players to achieve their optimum, as well as supporting people to deal with life’s knocks and self-doubts, is guaranteed to captivate the audience.

This event will be held on Thursday November 26 at 8pm in the Oranmore Lodge Hotel. It is being organised by a group of officers and coaches from various GAA, soccer, and athletics clubs, who believe that sports clubs and communities must lead the way in building confidence. Clarinbridge GAA, Colga FC, Oranmore Maree GAA, SCCUL Enterprises, Mental Health Ireland, Maree-Oranmore FC, Craughwell Athletic Club, and Clarinbridge Camogie are all backing the event.

Galway is lucky to have a range of good sports organisations which are working together to promote co-operation and self-help. The approach is simple, namely, to support each other at club and community level. Sport and physical fitness have long been acknowledged as valuable tools for improving personal growth and overall wellbeing. The organisers decided to focus on the benefits of physical fitness and participation in sport clubs. The aim is to get people talking and thinking about how to build resilience and motivation.

Pat Lam will be joined by Jeffrey Lynskey, Galway Minor hurling manager, Des Tomlinson, an FAI official/coach, and an athletics coach, who will all share their insights about this subject matter. The format of the evening will be relaxed and informal and encourages open discussion. It will be facilitated by Sean Walsh of Galway Bay FM.

Mental fitness is best promoted by hearing from those who often defy the odds and show resilience. Nothing is more powerful than a story and this event will see some inspiring sportspeople share their stories. More than ever, people need to develop positive attitudes and hobbies to counteract a culture which often promotes unhealthy lifestyles and negativity.

+This event is free and anyone with an interest in the subject is welcome to attend, whether or not they partake in sports clubs.
