Meet in Galway secure €2.5million in international conferences for 2016

The tide is changing for Galway in 2016, as it is fast becoming a “hot spot” for international conference business. As business tourism continues to be one of the fastest growing segments of the tourism industry, local marketing group “Meet in Galway” with the support of Failte Ireland have, over the last three years, made significant inroads within the business tourism markets, with initial results showing over €2.5 million in international conference business secured for Galway for 2016 directly linked to Meet in Galway.

While other European cities have enjoyed successes in this market over the years, Galway has long since been dismissed as a “leisure destination”, but this is set to change as the teams at Meet in Galway, comprised of members from the local university, hotels, activity providers, and conference organisers work tirelessly, to change this message and educate the international business market that Galway with its unique energy, stunning backdrop, and remarkable capabilities to service this market is “Open for Business”.

From multinational companies and international associations, to small firms and businesses in their infancy, the Meet in Galway team have assisted many organisations plan memorable and successful events. Providing support with bidding, familiarisation trips, conference organisation, accommodation and transfers, Meet in Galway works closely with Failte Ireland’s Business Tourism Unit to identify, secure and support international business events for the City, and together, provides unbiased advice and assistance throughout the conference organising process.

Among these was the highly anticipated “Food on the Edge” a two day symposium last month for chefs and food enthusiasts all around the world, to listen, talk, debate and network over two days in the Spiegel tent in Eyre Square.

NUIG has been a key player in this success as they to date have secured several conference bids and will play  host to over 18 international conferences in 2016.

The sky is the limit for Galway as it continues to become thriving metropolis on the edge of Europe, carefully balancing the charm of this ancient city, an exciting calendar of events and an ever growing corporate message.
