An elderly woman died after a fire broke out at her home in Oughterard yesterday afternoon (Wednesday ). Gardai, three units of the local fire brigade and an ambulance attended the scene, after the alarm was raised by locals at about 12noon.
The woman was alone in her home on Camp Street in the town when the incident occurred. Despite the fervent attempt of locals and members of the fire service, she could not be rescued and perished in the blaze.
Gardai are not treating the fire as suspicious but anybody who was in the Camp Street area yesterday afternoon and may have information about the incident is asked to contact Mill Street Garda Station on 091 538 000.
