Galwegians who have received letters from the Department of Arts, Heritage, and the Gaeltacht regarding the cessation of turf cutting are invited to a public meeting in the Arches Hotel, Claregalway, on Monday November 9 at 8pm.
A meeting has been organised by Independent Galway West TD Noel Grealish and will be attended by Dep Michael Fitzmaurice, the chair of the Turf Cutters and Contractors Association.
Dep Grealish is inviting all those concerned about their eligibility to cut turf, or with questions regarding recently received letters, from the Department of Arts, Heritage, and the Gaeltacht, under the Cessation of Turf Cutting Compensation Scheme, to attend the meeting. The letters are informing people that they are no longer allowed to cut turf in bogs designated under the EU Habitats Directive as Special Areas of Conservation.
