Moycullen's confidence boosted ahead of league leader's visit

SSE Airtricity Moycullen will need to step up a notch when they face early season pacesetters Templeogue on Saturday (8pm ) in the NUIG Kingfisher.

In this fourth fixture on their return to the premier league, Moycullen are under no illusions the tough challenge this unbeaten Dublin outfit will pose.

However, Moycullen, having posted a comfortable win over Eanna in Dublin last Saturday will go into the contest with greater confidence.

After two losses Moycullen were determined to produce a more complete performance, and at the game's end they had posted a significant 80-40 win over their Dublin opponents.

Eanna came out firing in the first 45 seconds to take an early four-point lead, but some excellent defence limited the hosts, while Moycullen capitalised on some fast breaks to score. With Andy Burns dominating the inside play, James Loughnane and Dylan Cunningham attacking the rim, they built an early 14-point lead. Such was Moycullen's dominance in this period of play, they went on an 18-0 run before Eanna were able to score again.

Moycullen continued to set the pace in the second quarter - Ronan O’Sullivan, playing his best game of the season, and Paul Freeman, continuing the good work inside. With Sean Candon, Stephen O’Brien and Kyle Cunningham maintaining the defensive intensity, Eanna were struggling and Moycullen held a 29-point lead at the half.

Eanna, however, found their purple patch in the third, but some excellent shooting from Cian Nihill  stemmed the tide to keep the gap at a more than manageable distance.

However there was no chance of a comeback from Eanna when Stephen, Sean and Paul O’Brien connected on well executed offenses for SSE Airtricity Moycullen in the fourth. With Joseph Tummon continuing the good defensive work of the inside players, the gap was 40 points by the end of the game.

•Season tickets are available prior to the game, with tickets also available for the Halloween Fancy Dress night which is being held in The Forge, Friday October 30.
