Moycullen Ladies through to Connacht final

Only two points separated the sides at the final whistle, but it was Maigh Cuilinn who prevailed to go through to the Connacht final after a nail-biting game against Burrishoole on Sunday.

The Galway side will now face the Roscommon champions, Padraig Pearses, on Sunday  October 25 - with time and venue to be announced.

In a tight encounter, Maigh Cuilinn were a point down at the break with Burrishoole scoring the only goal of the first half.  They were also first to score a point after just three minutes, but Niamh Thornton replied for Maigh Cuilinn.

When Burrishoole scored a goal less than two minutes later to lead by 1-2 to 0-1 after nine minutes, Maigh Cuilinn kept their composure, and thanks to two pointed frees by Shannon Keady, and points from Ailbhe Davoren and Thornton, they went in at the break trailing by the narrowest of margins 0.6 to 1.4.

Maigh Cuilinn were first to score in the second half, and despite a point from Burrishole after five minutes, the Galway side enjoyed a purple patch for 18 minutes, taking a four-point lead with scores from Shannon Keady, Katie Carter and Niamh Thornton. A goal  from Aine McDonagh should have clinched the game, but Burrishoole launched wave after wave of pressure.  Despite some great saves by Roisin Conneely and staunch defending, Burrishoole hit the net in the 24th minute, and a point less than a minute later, and another goal in the 26th minute, saw the teams level with two minutes to go.

However Shannon Keady kept her nerve when pointing a free  in the 29th minute, and a last point by Katie Carter on the stroke of full time saw the Maigh Cuilinn women hang on.
