Take an underground adventure at Baboró with Fíbín’s Saol Faoi Shráid

Galway’s very own Fíbín Theatre Company brings the exciting adventures of Ríbín and Glibín to the stage during this year’s Baboró International Arts Festival for Children, which takes place next week. Based on the characters from the hugely popular TG4 show of the same name, Saol Faoi Shráid features lots of singing and great interaction.

In Saol Faoi Shráid, Ríbín and Glibín go in search of treasure. When a map falls into their underground home from the world above, they, along with their friends, go on a big adventure. They encounter lots of new experiences, sometimes frightening, but always fun.

Presented in Irish, the combination of puppetry, a highly visual approach, and a simple language style makes Saol Faoi Shráid very accessible. Fíbín’s innovative style breaks through any language barriers and children respond with great enthusiasm to the show. In fact, they are usually singing along to the very catchy songs long after they leave the theatre.

Recently there was more good news for Fíbín when the TV show, written by Patricia Forde, received a prestigious Irish Film and Television Award nomination in the Children’s Animation category. The awards ceremony takes place in Dublin on October 22.

During the Baboró festival, Fíbín will launch An Giotar Nua, a new book by Patricia Forde based on the Saol Faoi Shráid television series, as well as a new app. These will be launched at An Taibhdhearc by Leo Moran from the Saw Doctors on Friday October 16 at 1.30pm. All are welcome.

Baboró starts next Monday, October 12, and runs until Sunday October 18. Fíbín’s Saol Faoi Shráid is on at An Taibhdhearc from Thursday October 15 to Sunday October 18. Tickets are still available for the weekend shows on Saturday 17 ,and Sunday 18 at 10am and 12 noon. The show runs for 40 minutes and is suitable for ages four to eight.
