THE HAPPY Heart Zone, a place where children and adults can come together to play, invent, be curious, and do just about anything, is coming to Galway and opening its doors as part of the Baboró International Festival for Children.
The Happy Heart Zone, designed for use by all ages, opens on Monday October 12 in the Galway2020 Community Hub, in the Cornstore on Middle Street. Those entering the space will be guided by artists Deirdre Rogers and Órla Kelly. Deirdre is a glass artist, designer, and educator who also works as an arts coordinator with ReCreate. Órla is a visual artist, creative educationalist, and arts manager who has worked with children for more than 15 years.
Recreate is bringing its Warehouse of Wonders to Baboró. ReCreate is a social enterprise which collects end of line and surplus materials from businesses, such as wool, plastic, fabric, tubing, and foam, and redistributes them in the Warehouse of Wonders for ‘creative reuse’, a world-wide concept encouraging the reuse of everyday materials in creative and inventive ways. Deirdre and Órla will guide participants through this during Baboró.
There are a variety of options to choose from throughout the week. Professional workshops in the Happy Heart Zone are Creative Arts for Teachers of Early Years zero – five (Tuesday 13, 7pm – 8.30pm ); Teaching Through the Creative Arts – Teachers of children five – 12 (Wednesday 14, 4.45pm – 6.15pm ); Creative Activities for Art and Play Therapists (Monday 12, 1.30pm ).
