The current Corofin side’s quest to become the first panel in the club’s history to win three-in-a-row county senior titles continued last Sunday when they defeated Cortoon Shamrocks by 2-11 to 0-7 in the county semi-final at Tuam Stadium.
In a one-sided encounter, Corofin had just too many options for Cortoon all over the field, and Gary Sice continued his scintillating form to rifle home a goal in each half to put the tie far beyond Paul Bradley’s side.
The current All-Ireland and county champions had good displays from Greg Higgins, who shot two terrific points from midfield, Liam Silke at full-back, who picked up his county colleague Adrian Varley, team captain Michael Farragher and his younger brother Martin. Young Dylan Wall also worked hard and kicked two first-half points.
Cortoon tried valiantly all through the contest, but they did not have the strength in depth to really have a real cut off Corofin, and the game was over as a contest with 15 minutes to go.
Cathal Mulryan, who produced a strong performance at centre-forward, did his best, while Derek Savage looked exceeding fit, mobile, and keen for a man who will turn 38 in the next month or two.
