Supermac’s founder Pat McDonagh has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the board of Ireland’s Forecourt and Convenience Retailer Awards.
Mr McDonagh was chosen to receive the award due to his work in the retail industry which has spanned over the last four decades. The Barack Obama Plaza, which is owned by Mr McDonagh and his wife Una, also received the award for Best Customer Service.
As well as owning a number of convenience stores nationwide Mr. McDonagh is owner of the aforementioned Barack Obama Plaza, Mallow N20 Plaza and most recently Tipperary Town Plaza which currently employ more than 370 staff collectively.
Mr. McDonagh has also announced plans to open three new motorway service plazas over the next two years at Junction 16 on the M6 in Kiltullagh, Co. Galway and on the M18 in Ennis and Limerick. These new developments will create 320 new jobs in their local areas.
Speaking about the award Mr. McDonagh says “I am delighted to have received such a prestigious award. The team Una and I have worked with over the last 37 years in business have been key to helping us grow solidly and steadily to get to where we are today.
“The Barack Obama Plaza was our first venture into the major motorway services business and we are thrilled to see the success of that business along with the other Plazas we own around the country.”
