In Light of Salt Rings They Drew

New play to be staged in Nuns Island Arts Centre this weekend

FOLLOWING A car crash, the circumstances of which cannot be explained, Maisie reluctantly takes up residence in a mental rehabilitation centre for a period of observation. Then she gets some surprising news.

Maisie's daugher - her only link to the outside world - receives a nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and Maisie struggles to balance the harrowing anticipation she has for her daughter, with the eccentricity of the staff and patients at St Elmo's. As the award ceremony draws nearer, nicotine cravings, apprehension, and scrapbooks, dominate Maisie’s temporary surroundings as the ghosts of memories she would rather forget begin to re-emerge.

This is In Light of Salt Rings They Drew, written and directed by Sadhbh Moriarty, and co-directed by Ciarán MacArtain, and staged by Strive Theatre. It will be performed in the Nuns Island Theatre on Friday October 2 and Saturday 3. Playwright Billy Roche said of it: "Sadhbh Moriarty trumpets her arrival with her stage play In Light of Salt Rings they Drew - intricate and intriguing and dripping with pain-filled humanity. It is a stunning debut indeed."

The cast is Nikki Burke, Cornelius Dwyer, Shannon Smythe, Ellen Quirke, and Rachel Feeney. For tickets contact the Galway Arts Centre (091 - 565886, www.galwayartscentre.ie ).
