Award winning poet Rafiq Kathwari to headline event

RAFIQ KATHWARI, the first non-Irish recipient of the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award, will be among the featured readers at the Over The Edge: Open Reading in Galway City Library on Thursday September 24 at 6.30pm.

Rafiq Kathwari was born in the disputed Kashmir Valley, has lived most of his adult life in New York, and now resides in Louth. He returns regularly to Kashmir, working as a social entrepreneur, empowering women artisans. He has translated poems in Urdu by Sir Mohammed Iqbal. His own debut poetry collection, In Another Country, is published by Doire Press.

Also reading is German writer Andrea Lutz. She has published articles and short stories in thecheers.org, while her short fiction has been published in The Galway Review. She founded the Galway International Writers writing group. The third reader is Katherine Noone, whose poems have appeared in Boyne Berries, Crannóg, The Galway Review, and Skylight 47.

The shortlist for the Over The Edge New Writer of the Year 2015 competition will be announced. The MC will be Susan Millar DuMars. All are welcome.
