The magic of animals - on canvas at Renzo

JEAN O’CONNOR grooms dogs professionally part-time and tends horses, and for 10 years worked with members of the US equestrian team. Little wonder then that her art focuses extensively on animals.

Animal Magic, an exhibition of paintings by Jean O’Connor, opens at the Renzo Gallery Café, Eyre Street, this evening at 8pm. Jean works in oils, acrylics, water colour, pastels and conte crayons. A speciality is pet portraits, some of which will be on display as part of the show.

From Galway, Jean has painted and been involved with animals all her life. The holder of two BScs in biochemistry and Bio-Medical Science, and a diploma in accupuncture, she recently retired from the HSE, where she was a senior medical scientist. She has completed courses with Pauline Berwick, John Dinan, and Grace Cunningham, among others.

Animal Magic runs until October 18.
