Capture the magic of Galway and win €2020

The Latin Quarter, the city’s renowned social and cultural hub encompassing the vibrant areas of Quay Street and the Spanish Arch, is supporting Galway’s bid to become the 2020 European Capital of Culture by offering video enthusiasts the opportunity to win €2020 and the possibility of creating a viral video campaign.

Chairperson of The Latin Quarter, Margaret Jenkins, says the business owners in the area are searching for the video that best captures the energy, magic, and spirit of Galway. "We ultimately want the footage that best explains, in a visual way, why the City of the Tribes should become the 2020 European Capital of Culture will win the coveted prize. There is such scope to create something really special that will be showcased across the globe. It’s a competition for everyone and there has already been huge interest, so we’re really looking forward to viewing all the footage.''

Entries are welcome from all individuals, including children, regardless if you are a fanatic videographer or a complete beginner. There is no restriction on where the footage should be filmed once it is in Galway city or county, and you don’t have to be a Galwegian to take part as entries are welcome from natives of all counties and countries.

Various forms of footage are accepted, including videos taken on your mobile phone, along with the use of professional recording equipment. You can enter as many time as you like, however, each entry can be no longer than 90 seconds. The key is capturing what’s so special about Galway. Cash prizes for second and third place will also be offered and the winning entry will receive promotional exposure locally, nationally, and internationally.
