Silver medal for McEvilly Championships

Galway's Martin McEvilly (above ) has taken silver at the World Masters Athletics championships in Lyon, France.

The GCH athlete won silver in the over 65 2000 metre steeplechase on the final day of competition, and was just pipped for the gold by  Belgium’s Johnny Boextaens in 7:42.01, finishing just fractionally behind his rival. McEvilly also placed a fine sixth in the 8km cross country event in very hot conditions. 

Castlegar AC athlete Sean McDermott ran 4.33 in the 1500m O40 event, narrowly missing a final berth. 

Claregalway 10k

The 28th edition of one of Galway’s longest running road races, the Claregalway 10k,  takes place on at 6pm on Saturday. 

The entry fee is €20, €5 of which goes to the Galway Hospice, and a T-shirt is provided for all entrants. Race pack pick-up and late entries will be taken up to 5.30pm at the Community Centre, Claregalway, Co Galway.

The race starts outside Claregalway National School, with the finish outside Claregalway Community Centre.

There will be prizes for the first five individual men, the first five individual women, and the first two men and women over 40, 50 and 60.
