650,000 French read about Connemara and the Aran Islands in popular travel magazine

A major article showcasing Connemara, the Aran Islands and the Wild Atlantic Way features in the August edition of Grands Reportages magazine, a popular French travel magazine with about 650,000 readers or potential holidaymakers for Galway and the west of Ireland.

Tourism Ireland in Paris invited a journalist and photographer from Grands Reportages to visit this spring. Sixteen pages in the magazine are devoted to Connemara and the Aran Islands. The article describes the “paysages époustouflants” (breathtaking scenery ) of this part of Ireland, and includes wonderful images of places like Kylemore Abbey, Killary Harbour, and Dún Aonghasa.

Monica MacLaverty, Tourism Ireland’s manager for southern Europe, said: “We are delighted with the extensive coverage in Grands Reportages magazine, which is an excellent way of showcasing Connemara, the Aran Islands and the Wild Atlantic Way to a large audience of potential French holidaymakers. Publicity is an important element of our overall promotional programme, helping to raise awareness through the media in France of our spectacular scenery and the many things to see and do on a holiday in Cork and elsewhere around Ireland.

“France is one of the top four markets for tourism to Ireland and it’s been the best first half ever for French visitors, with the latest CSO figures showing growth of 13 per cent for January to June, an extra 28,700 French visitors compared with the same six-month period in 2014. Tourism Ireland is undertaking an extensive programme of promotions in France throughout 2015, to ensure that this growth continues.”
