That’s So Gay! - public talk on gender and sexual stereotyping

Electric to host RIDE Weekender to coincide with Pride festival

THAT'S SO Gay! is the provocative title of a public talk about the history and evolution of gender and sexual stereotyping, which will be given by Tonie Walsh of the Irish Queer Archive in Electric this weekend.

The talk is part of a series of events under the banner of the Electric Ride Weekender, the Abbeygate Street venue's celebration of diversity, inclusivity, sexual identity, and tolerance, this Saturday and Sunday.

Tonie will give his illustrated, and at times humorous lecture on Saturday at 8pm. He will, over the course of 90 minutes, trace the evolution of gender and sexual stereotyping, identifying the use and abuse of stereotyping by religion, popular culture, and mass media. The end result, he says, is to create a new LGBT 'mythology' and a culture of anti-discrimination that celebrates diversity. Admission is by donation to Amach! LGBT.

This will be followed by a disco with P Disconaunt and Byron joining Tonie Walsh, the Electric confetti cannons, sparklers and costumed lovers on the Electric mainfloor. Admission is €8/5. Sunday, will see Electric's ALICE clubnight throw one of its day to night parties on Biteclub's rooftop from 4pm. Admission is free.
