Events added to Galway Pride Festival

Festival opens this evening at Monroe's Live. Parade takes place on Saturday

THE GALWAY Pride Festival begins today, ushering in a weekend of music, dance, fancy dress, family fun, talks, youth events, and the annual parade, and in addition to the announced programme more events have been added.

Pride will be officially opened in Monroe's Live this evening at 8pm, with finger food and music from The Cozy Cartel and all Galway is invited to take part. Tomorrow sees the launch of the first Pride Festival club night, Filthy or Gorgeous at Monroe’s Live tomorrow from 9pm, with music from reggae band The Clandestinos and Dublin’s DJ Ruth. People going are encouraged to dress up - fancy dress is also welcome - along the themes of filthy, georgeous, and 'Express Yourself'.

The Róísín Dubh will also host events for Pride with Dublin's Victoria Secret and her male dancers, followed by the Euphoria clubnight with Mr Gay Ireland on Saturday from 9pm. Tickets are €10 at the door. See also www.roisindubh.net

New events

The parade on Saturday, at which former Fianna Fáil minister Pat Carey is grand marshall, will have the longest Pride Flag in Europe. The parade leaves Eyre Square at 2pm, assembly from 1.30pm, and goes to the Spanish Arch, and all Galwegians are invited to watch, walk with, or help carry the flag through the streets. Later DJ Daztronik will spin vinyl in Arus Na nGael Dominick Street, from 8.30pm to 11pm.

On Sunday to cater for those not going on the Corrib Princess Boat Cruise, music will be provided in Monroe's BackStage bar by local musicians Baritone, Apollo, and DJ Daztronic between 5.30pm and 9pm.
