PUNK, SURF-rock, full on indie, and the new project from Oh Boland's Niall Murphy will all be heard in the Róisín Dubh over the next three Wednesdays as the Citóg music nights, promoting emerging Galway and Irish bands, return.
The first show takes place this Wednesday and will feature Mollusk, led by Niall Murphy, with support from Fonda and singer-songwriter Marcus Fields. North County Dublin Fangclub, who play garage/punk, with a touch of indie, headline on August 12. The band - Stevin King (vocals/guitar ), Kevin Keane (bass ), and Dara Coleman (drums ) - have been enjoying critical acclaim since they released their debut EP Alkali in 2014. According to Goldenplec, "Fangclub win you over with their sheer enthusiasm and infectious melodies...That initial ripple Fangclub have caused in the pond is set to become a tsunami." While 2FM's Dan Hegarty said they have "tunes to jump up and down to, and scream along with". A good example is the grungy 'Transparent':

The final Citóg gig of the month takes place on August 19 with Me and My Dog headlining. Influenced by The Feelies, Stephen Malkmus, The Clean, The Magnetic Fields, and Television, Me and My Dog create "infectious surf-pop tracks that will get you tapping your foot politely and partying (sensibly ) like it’s 1963", according to Goldenplec; while Stephen White of The Last Mixed Tape described their music as being "imbued with a vibrant melodic aesthetic...hook-laden passages and flickering post-modernism". To date the band have released the Three Songs About Me and My Dog EP (2013 ) and the splity album with Oh Boland, Delphi (2014 ):
Support is from the excellent Galway quartet We Are Ruffians, who combine surf-rock and indie pop and play with a confidence and sophistication beyond their years. Also playing is Bob Skeleton.
Doors for all three shows are at 9pm and admission is free.
