FRANKIE GAVIN and De Dannan will play Monroe's Live on Friday August 7 at 9pm in a fundraising concert for Gorta-Self Help Africa in partnership with Alan Kerins Projects.
All proceeds from the night will go towards the work of both charities in combating hunger and in helping farming families in Zambia. The headline act will be Frankie Gavin and De Dannan, led by Frankie, one of Ireland's greatest and most imaginative trad fiddle players. The line-up is completed by Barry Brady (accordion ), Bernadine Casserly (vocals ), Dan Bodwell (double bass/vocals ), and Colm O’Caoimh (guitar/vocals )
The band can play jigs and reels to perfection, but through their choice of material, arrangements, and style of playing, have always sought to place traditional Irish music in a wider cultural context. As a result, gypsy jazz, contemporary pop music, European classical, and American folk also appear, as evidenced by the 2014 single, a pairing of Handel’s 'The Queen Of Sheba' with Paul Mc Cartney’s 'Calico Skies'. They have performed at the Sochi Music Festival before the Winter Olympics; at a State dinner for Uachtarán na hÉireann Michael D Higgins, and several White House performances for American presidents.
