Leading academic to give interfaith lecture in Galway

Academic and author Dr Ataullah Siddiqui to speak on religions facing extremism and modernity

The challenges that both extremism and secular modernity pose to people of faith, and the challenges of living in a multi-faith society, will be explored in a public lecture, to be given by a leading British academic in Galway.

Academic and author Dr Ataullah Siddiqui will give a lecture entitled Faith in Dialogue: Religions Facing Extremism and Modernity, in the Menlo Park Hotel, tomorrow evening at 7.30pm.

Dr Siddiqui is a Reader in Religious Pluralism and Inter-Faith Relations at the Markfield Institute of Higher Education, Leicestershire; a visiting professor at the University of Gloucestershire; a visiting fellow at York St John’s University; a member of the advisory board of the HRH Prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal Centre for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World at the University of Edinburgh.

He is a founder member of the Leicester Council of Faiths and the author of a number of books, including British Secularism and Religion: Islam, Society and the State and Islam and Other Faiths. He is also the author of the British government report Islam at Universities in England: Meeting the Needs and Investing in the Future.

The event is organised by the Galway Interfaith Alliance. Admission is free and all are welcome.
