My Fellow Sponges - unplugged and intimate

Galway prog-folksters to play The Ruby Room in The King's Head

MY FELLOW Sponges, the Galway folk-prog/indie band will play a stripped down and intimate acoustic show in The Ruby Room at The King's Head, this Saturday, July 25, at 5pm.

Fronted by two singers Anna Mullarkey, who also plays piano, and guitarist Donal McConnon, My Fellow Sponges will perform songs from their debut album Bonne Nuit and the recent Something Like Light EP, which featured on the RTÉ Radio 1 Playlist.

Bonne Nuit was recorded in Galway and released in 2013. Reviewer Ebhan Loughlan described it as “a powerful collection of beautiful odes, ballads, theatrical accompaniment and voices, intricate percussion, visual lyrics, and colourful imagery”. Something Like Light demonstrates a slightly more reflective side of the band, without losing their original folksy charm. Among its tracks is 'Floating', written by Donal McConnon:

My Fellow Sponges have played the Body and Soul festival and will play in Electric Picnic in Stradbally in September. Doors are at 4.30pm. Space is limited so early arrival is strongly advised. For reservations contact 087 - 2491262. Tickets are €8.
