Teddy Bears Lodge crèche, based in Woodlands Estate, Lackagh, is celebrating its 10th birthday on July 4th.
Teddy Bears Lodge crèche was opened in 2005 by Grainne McDonagh. The crèche is a purpose built service that provides childcare for children aged from one year to 12 years. Some of the services provided include full day care, a toddler playgroup, Montessori preschool, ECCE scheme (free preschool year ), and afterschool club with school drop-offs and collections to and from Lackagh National School.
All the staff in Teddy Bears Lodge are fully qualified and experienced, and from the local areas of Turloughmore and Abbeyknockmoy. Grainne McDonagh, a local woman from Turloughmore, opened the crèche on July 4 2005 in Woodlands Estate with only three children and one member of staff; 10 years later the service provides employment to seven employees and provides childcare to more than 50 children every year.
Ms McDonagh said she is very grateful to all the parents in the area for their support. “Without them our crèche would never have become so successful and I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to work with some amazing children and their families,” she added. “I’ve also been very lucky to receive invaluable support from Galway Childcare Committee over the last 10 years; they have been with us since we were building the service back in 2005 to offer advice and support on everything from recruiting to training requirements, and are still always just a phone call away whenever they are needed. I am also extremely thankful for my staff who have put in so much hard work over the years, I’m very lucky as an employer that I can count all my employees as my friends. I would also like to give the final thanks to my own parents, Jarlath and Gerardine McDonagh, who always offer encouragement and support to me.”
