Traidphicnic 2015

Weekend of music, events, and workshops in An Spidéal

LIAM Ó MAOINLAÍ and his new band Ré, will headline Thraidphicnic, the annual weekend of Irish traditional music and workshops, in An Spidéal, from Friday July 3 to Sunday 5.

Ó Maoinlaí, best known as leader of The Hothouse Flowers in the late 1980s and early 1990s, will perform with Ré at 2.30pm on Saturday 4. The other members of the band also boast serious pedigree - Peter O Toole (Hothouse Flowers ), Maitiu Ó Casaide (TG4 Young Musician of the Year 2015 ), Eithne Ni Chatháin (INNI-K ) and the acclaimed concertina player Cormac Begley.

There will also be concerts from The Hernon Family and friends; Tap Room, featuring Harry Bradley, Jesse Smith, Colm Gannon, and John Blake; Liam Ó Brien and Hajime Takahashi; Tóla Custy; The Bonny Men; Skippers Alley; Neansaí Ní Choisdealbha; Bríd Harper; Tom Byrne; Fís; Rianú; and the great fiddle player Charlie Lennon.

Traidphicnic is a bi-lingual festival organised by volunteers with an ethos of donate what you can. As well as music there will be arts and crafts; a giant camera obscura, which we are informed will allow the public to listen on on phone calls from Mars; circus skills; exhibitions; an art trail; walks; sean-nós dance or song classes; and opportunities to chat as Gaeilge.
