NICKY SIANO, the man who, in many respects, invented the art of DJing, pioneering many of the styles and techniques DJs use today, and who has been cited among the '100 People who Changed New York', by New York magazine, is coming to Galway.
Nicky, who DJed at New York's legendary Studio 54 nightclub, is a pioneer of dance music. Play Magazine has gone as far as to say, "Nicky Siano IS dance music." His first job playing records was at New York’s The Round Table in 1971. In 1972, aged 17, he opened, designed, and was the DJ at The Gallery, considered by many to be the first disco. Later when Steve Rubelle opened Studio 54, he called on Nicky's services.
Nicky is credited with starting many DJ techniques like beat matching records. He inspired owners to build such clubs as The Paradise Gara ge and Studio 54 and he launched the careers of Grace Jones, DC La Rue, Loleatta Holloway, Larry Levan and Frankie Knuckles.
Nicky will DJ at The Loft on Friday July 10 at 10.30pm. Support is from Beats & Pieces residents Anthony C and Ferg. Tickets are €10 and are available in advance from The Loft @ Seven.
