FREE WORKSHOPS in the Japanese poetry form of Haiku will be hosted by the Baboró International Arts Festival for Children, this Saturday, June 13th in the Galway 2020 Hub in The Cornstore, Middle Street.
The workshops are for children aged seven and over and are part of initiatives to raise awareness and ideas for Galway's 2020 European Capital of Culture Bid. The workshop will ask children about their vision for the city; what they would like to see happen if Galway wins the bid; what age they will be in 2020; and what culture means to them.
Haiku is a form of poetry that has a formula of three lines - the first with five syllables, the second with seven syllables, and the third with five syllables. Poet Terry McDonagh and facilitator Sinead Hackett will teach children how to write in this format. Children can also add a drawing or photograph and contribute to a Galway Capital of Culture wall on public display.
Sessions take place at 11am, 2pm, and 4pm. There is a maximum capacity of 40 per session so participants are advised to arrive early. Admission to the workshops is free. See www.baboro.ie/events/haiku
