WE BANJO 3, the Galway roots/trad/bluegrass phenomenon have just released their new album Live In Galway and later this month they play a show at the Town Hall Theatre.
Live in Galway was recorded at the Róisín Dubh last February and features 15 tracks which includes traditional material as well as interpretations of music by Guy Davis, Johnny Finn, and Eric Bibb. To get a taste of the album, check out this video for We Banjo 3's take on Eric Bibb's 'Get On Board', recording in the Róisín Dubh for Live In Galway:
Joining the 'band of brothers' - Martin and David Howley and Enda and Fergal Scahill - on the album are trumpeter Peter Berill, trombonist Pat Corless, saxophonists Kenny Talkowski and Nick Roth, accordionist Damien Mullane, guitarist Tom Portman, singers Norianna Kennedy and Nicola Joyce, as well as the trio JigJam. "It was an incredible experience for the band," Enda says of the concert and its recording, and judging by the high energy, skill, and enthusiasm that is par for the course at a We Banjo 3 gig, the album should be a belter.
The band's next live date in Galway takes place in the Town Hall Theatre on Wednesday June 24 at 8pm, as part of a double bill entitled Roots, Boots and Banjos with The Willis Clan from Nashville, a family with 12 children who all play music. The show will be part of a hectic schedule for We Banjo 3. As Enda said: "We have a lot of international travel happening in June and July."
