Talks to focus on history of Kinvara

A series of illustrated talks due to take place in Kinvara in the coming weeks will shed light on the history of the area.

A look at Kinvara’s history from earliest times to present day will feature six talks by local historian Jeff O’Connell, and will begin on Wednesday February 4 at 8.30pm in Johnston’s Hall. The series will continue every Wednesday until March 11.

A field trip taking in various historical sites in and around Kinvara will be arranged once the talks begin. The course costs €60 and printed handouts will accompany each talk.

Jeff O’Connell has published several books and articles on aspects of Kinvara’s history. He is a former editor of Trácht magazine, co-editor of The Book of the Burren and The Book of Aran, and he provided the text for maps of Kinvara, south Galway, the Burren, and medieval Galway for Tír Eolas Publications. Mr O’Connell is the former arts editor of the Galway Advertiser and also contributed for many years to a weekly column, ‘Galway of the Tribes’, in the Advertiser.
